Born in Cateau-Cambrésis on February 13, 1768 – Died in Paris on July 28, 1835
Characterized by his loyalty to the Emperor, he was of great physical strength.
His bravery was legendary and repeatedly enabled him to get out of situations considered desperate, especially at Diernstein in 1805. Saluted by Napoleon during the Hundred Days: “My brave Mortar”.
