The adopted son of Bonaparte, he became his aide-de-camp. The proclamation of the Empire benefited him and he was named Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor, General of the Brigade and Colonel-General of the Chasseurs de la Garde. Napoleon trusted him and did not hesitate to rely on a prince whose motto was “Honour and Fidelity”.

After his mother’s divorce and long hesitations, he stays by Napoleon’s side but refuses any further favors. He took no part in the war after Napoleon’s return in 1815.
