Born in Paris October 23, 1766 – Died in St-Etienne May 29, 1847
Grouchy was an excellent general cavalry officer and a good administrator, appreciated by his men. Dismissed as a nobleman under the Terror, he will then enlist as a simple soldier out of patriotic fervor.
History has remembered that he failed him at the Battle of Waterloo, busy pursuing the Prussian rearguard. Napoleon said of him: “No, no, Grouchy did not act with the intention of betraying, but he lacked timeliness.
