Description

The famous “Camel Company” was created during the Syrian campaign.

Indeed, following the naval defeat of Aboukir during the Egyptian campaign, La Grande Armée seems weakened because it is stuck in the country. It was then that, pushed by England and Russia, Turkey declared war on Napoleon, ruining his hopes of a Turkish alliance. It thus formed two armies: one on the Island of Rhodes and the other in Syria. In order to get ahead of his enemy, Napoleon decided to invade Syria.

He reinforced his infantry and created this regiment of camels. Mounted each by two soldiers, these tireless animals will do wonders in the desert, where the horses would quickly die of thirst and exhaustion.
