Description

Upon graduating from the Military School in 1785, Napoleon was appointed lieutenant of the bomber company of the Régiment de la Fère. All his life, he was particularly fond of the Artillery, whose judicious use often enabled him to ensure victory.

From a decree of April 12, 1808, the Guard was endowed with a regiment of foot artillery that included a company of pontoon workers, under the command of General Drouot.

Starting in 1810, the dismounted artillerymen were equipped with a teddy bear cap with a visor.
