Description

Ordnance musicians were assigned to different regiments of infantry, cavalry and artillery. These musics were then means of communication, taking over from the human voice, muffled by the noise of the fighting. The drums gave rhythm to the march, indicated the movements to be followed and beat the charge. During the battles, the musicians (with the exception of the drums) participated in the supply of ammunition and the collection of wounded soldiers.
