Description
General Jean Joseph Ange d’HAUPOULT
Born May 13, 1754 at Cahuzac-sur-Vère – Died February 14, 1807 at Eylau
After Austerlitz, Napoleon made him Grand Eagle of the Legion of Honor and appointed him Senator.
In February 1807, on the eve of the Battle of Eylau, he toppled the Russian vanguards. The Emperor congratulated and embraced him. “To prove myself worthy of such an honor, I must be killed for Your Majesty,” wrote Hautpoul.
The next day during the Great Charge of Murat, he was wounded by a biscaïen who broke his thigh; refusing to be amputated, he died five days later of septicemia.
