Description
Marshal Auguste Viesse de MARMONT
Duke of Ragusa
Born in Chatillon s/Seine on July 20, 1774 – Died in Venice on March 3, 1852
The luxury he surrounded himself with made him nicknamed “King Marmont”.
Better administrator than a good warlord, he joined the Bourbons after Waterloo.
This turnaround led the Emperor in exile to write: “Marmont is very unhappy because he is a man of high feelings. He made a mistake and thought he was saving his country”.
