By Imperial decree of 18 March 1811, the grenadier regiment of the Royal Guard took the name of 3rd Grenadier Regiment. Their red dress with white lapels was maintained for a while after their passage in the French army.
Enlisted in the Grande Armée during the Russian campaign, they were almost entirely decimated.
