Description

The Canadian Voltigeurs were a light infantry unit, raised in Lower Canada (the present-day Province of Quebec) in 1812, that fought in the War of 1812 between Britain and the United States.

The imminent threat of an American invasion forced George Prévost to use the Canadian militia to defend the country. On April 25, 1812, recruitment of volunteers for the Canadian Voltigeurs Corps began. This battalion was composed of volunteers and was to serve for the duration of the war against the United States.
